My name is Pilar Smith, and I am a chef who transitioned into food photography.
From the moment I first wore a chef’s coat, I recognized that my life would revolve around the culinary arts.
The fleeting nature of culinary art brought me to food photography, where moments are preserved.
After 25 years thriving in Catalunya’s top restaurants and running my own business, I moved to Seattle, where I fully embraced food photography as a new expression of my culinary vision.
This transition felt natural—both culinary arts and photography depend on shapes, colors, composition, and movement. Fire in cooking and light in photography parallel each other, requiring thoughtful technique to master.
I was always fascinated by beautiful products in their prime and by unique utensils from different cultures that help create the art of the table, along with other exciting areas of gastronomy.
Through photography, I capture the artistry and stories of food, expressing my culinary vision in each image.
